SECRET BAY IN DOMINICA, WEST INDIES
HURRICANE UPDATE: Secret Bay is taking reservations, and is scheduled to reopen November 1, 2018. All villas will now have private plunge pools. Secret Bay won the Traveler’s Choice Awards in 2015 for luxury, service, romance and being a top small hotel in the Caribbean. Secret Bay has a total of six villas and bungalows. With your personalized concierge service, it is easy to make nearly any request during your stay. Secret Bay is a small, luxury resort, intimate and secluded. In this private hideaway you can really unwind, relax and feel more in tune with nature. Some of the villas and bungalows have their very own plunge pools or Jacuzzi tubs. The resort has access to three beaches – Tibay Beach, Secret Beach and Coconut Beach that all have calm seas perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There is also a nearby cave you can swim through, as well as take a boat up the Cario River.
The cuisine is fresh, local and organic. Although there is no main dining restaurant, you have a cooking service for up to two meals per day included in your stay. Each villa and bungalow come equipped with a full kitchen. You will have the assistance of staff in helping you find the freshest local produce and ingredients to use. There are also fresh herbs grown at the resort to season your freshly caught fish, or brew up a steamed hot pot of tea.
If you do not wish to do your own cooking, the complimentary personalized cooking service can prepare up to two meals daily in your own villa or bungalow (there is a cost for the service and ingredients). Breakfast dishes may include a Creole Dominican meal, or homemade pancakes. Lunch may include a rustic picnic basket for you to take to the beach, and dinner may be a local specialty such as pumpkin rice, frilled shrimp or yam pie.
Along with your meals you can also purchase fine wines from around the world from Secret Bay’s own wine cellar, or you can select a wine from your villa or bungalow’s wine cooler. You can also have Secret Bay pre-stock your villa or bungalow prior to arriving at Secret Bay with your favorite foods and local produce. You may also purchase organic food baskets, including a Chef’s basket with three-days worth of fresh fruits, vegetables, juice, snacks, bread, jam and more.
Secret Bay also offers complimentary cooking classes by one of the resort’s chefs who will come to your villa or bungalow and teach you how to prepare traditional Dominican dishes. You may also wish to hire your own personal chef to prepare an a la carte meal in your villa or bungalow, and hire a jazz musician to play for you during your meal. As you can see the options are endless.
Close by Secret Bay is The Source Shack located on Tibay Beach should you decide to dine off the property for an informal outdoor option for some of the local food. Further down the road in Portsmouth, and further out, are more restaurants where you can dine.
